Is a Hot Air Balloon Flight in Teotihuacán Safe?

How we decide whether to fly, what happens on board and who can join a flight.

Book your flight

Who decides if we fly

Every flight depends on the weather. The local authority provides the general safety assessment for the morning, and the pilot makes the final decision on site. If conditions are not safe, we do not fly.

Advance cancellations are communicated by our operations team by email and phone. If the weather changes suddenly on the morning of your flight, the pilot explains the decision on site. If your flight is cancelled for unsafe weather, you can reschedule or receive a refund under our cancellation rules. Promotional bookings can be rescheduled.

Safety on the day of your flight

  1. 1

    Weather check

Before every flight the pilot reviews the conditions and decides whether it is safe to take off.

  2. 2

    Safety briefing

Our team explains how the flight works and what to do during take-off and landing.

  3. 3

    In the air

Balloons cannot be steered. Our licensed pilots navigate by using wind currents at different altitudes.

  4. 4

    Ground crew

A dedicated ground crew follows the balloon for the whole flight and is there to meet you when you land.

  5. 5

    Landing

The balloon lands in a different place from where it took off. Follow the pilot's instructions until the basket has fully stopped.

For safety reasons, pregnant women are not permitted to fly. We recommend consulting with your doctor before booking if you have any physical limitations.

What is the minimum and maximum age to fly?

The minimum age to fly is generally 4 years old. This can vary depending on the child's height, as they must be tall enough to see over the edge of the basket. There is no maximum age, but all passengers must be able to stand unassisted for the entire flight.

How many people fit in one basket?

Our balloons have a capacity of 2 to 10 passengers.

How does a balloon fly?

Hot air balloons fly by heating the air inside the balloon, making it less dense than the outside air. While balloons cannot be steered, our licensed pilots navigate using different wind currents at various altitudes to control the direction of the flight.

Does the landing happen in the same place as the departure?

No. Since hot air balloons cannot be steered, they will land in a different location. Our dedicated ground crew follows the balloon throughout the entire flight and will be there to greet you upon landing.
